With the project entitled "Mechanics of supershear earthquakes: theory and modeling across scales", Federico secured a prestigious National Science Foundation Standard grant (award number #2524910 - award date: 08/06/2025 - award period of performance: 09/01/2025--08/31/2028). The project will develop new theoretical and computational approaches to investigate supershear earthquakes—ruptures that propagate faster than the shear-wave speed and can generate particularly intense ground shaking. We look forward to advancing the understanding of these extreme and damaging seismic events!
